GUARDIANSHIP OF A ESTATE
Estate is defined as both real and personal property and includes anything that may be the subject of the ownership of the ward. When the court appoints a guardian of the estate, the guardian is generally assigned the following responsibilities:
- Marshall and protect assets
- Obtain appraisals of property
- Protect property and assets from loss
- Receive income for the estate
- Pay bills and make appropriate disbursements
- Obtain court approval before selling any assets
- Annually report to the court on the accounting of the estate
